What it solves

Watching video courses makes it hard to review and organize what you learned. course2md turns any video (YouTube, Bilibili, or a local file) into written notes: it detects when the slide or picture changes, captures that frame, and places the corresponding transcript below it. The result is a clean markdown or HTML document you can read, search, and keep in your notes library.

How it works

You give it a video URL or local path, either in the desktop app or via the command line. The tool downloads the video (for online links) and uses existing subtitles if available; otherwise it transcribes speech locally on your machine. It then detects visual changes and inserts screenshots into the transcript at the right places. You can optionally enable AI proofreading and summaries, which run on any OpenAI-compatible service, a local Ollama server, or a ChatGPT subscription — this is off by default. The desktop app adds background tasks, a notes library with folders and search, a reader with outline, and theming.

It’s designed for people who watch courses on YouTube, Bilibili, or have local recordings and prefer to study from written material. The desktop app is available for macOS (Apple Silicon), Windows, Arch Linux, and other x86_64 Linux distributions; the CLI runs on macOS/Linux via prebuilt binary or source.
