Hands-on labs for extending Microsoft 365 Copilot and building custom engine agents
What it solves
Developers need practical, role-based guidance to build agents and connectors for Microsoft 365 Copilot. This repo hosts a virtual workshop with multiple hands-on learning paths, so you can pick the path that fits your scenario and skill level—from no-code to pro-code.
How it works
The repo is organized around learning paths. For extending Microsoft 365 Copilot, you start with a required on-ramp: E1A (Agent Builder, no-code) or E1B (Agents Toolkit, pro-code), then choose a bundle:
- Bundle A — MCP Foundation: build and secure an MCP server with OAuth 2.0 and Entra ID, using least-privilege access.
- Bundle B — Multi-Agent Workflows: orchestrate multiple agents with role-based handoffs.
- Bundle C — MCP App: build rich interactive UI with React + Fluent UI widgets.
- Bundle D — API-Based Agent: call custom APIs via a plugin built from an OpenAPI spec with auth and real operations.
- Bundle E — Copilot Connectors: ground responses in enterprise data.
For custom engine agents, you get full control over the foundation model, orchestrator, and security stack. One path uses the M365 Agents SDK + Semantic Kernel with C# for multi-step reasoning across Teams and Copilot Chat. Another path builds a production-ready insurance claims agent from scratch, including document search, vision analysis, and auth.
There is also a Copilot Cowork path for extending an orchestrator that executes multi-step, cross-app workflows across Microsoft 365, plus a SharePoint path for agents grounded in SharePoint content and interactive Copilot Apps for SharePoint Online.
The repo also includes a script to check typos in markdown pages.
Who it's for
Developers who want to build agents and connectors for Microsoft 365 Copilot. It's designed for a range of roles and scenarios, including no-code builders, pro-code developers, teams using MCP, API-based agents, multi-agent workflows, enterprise data grounding, and SharePoint extensibility. Community participation is encouraged through issues and discussions.
