marcus/sidecar
Use sidecar next to CLI agents for diffs, file trees, conversation history, and task management with td
What it solves
Sidecar provides a unified shell environment designed specifically for AI-driven development. It eliminates the need to constantly switch between a terminal, a text editor, a git client, and task trackers (like Jira or GitHub) by integrating all these tools into a single, multi-pane interface where AI coding agents can operate.
How it works
Sidecar acts as an orchestration layer for your development workflow. It embeds interactive terminals (via tmux integration) where you can run AI agents like Claude Code or Gemini. Around these terminals, it manages split panes that can programmatically display files, git diffs, and external resources. It also includes a global "Sessions" screen to monitor multiple AI agent activities across different projects and a "TD Monitor" to track agent-led task progress.
Who it’s for
Developers who use AI coding agents and want a centralized workspace to monitor agent progress, review code changes in real-time, and manage project context without leaving the terminal.
Highlights
- Integrated Agent Workspaces: Run multiple AI coding agents in embedded terminals with native text selection and clipboard support.
- Multi-Pane Resource Management: Open files, git diffs, and Jira/GitHub issues in side-by-side panes using simple commands.
- Cross-Project Monitoring: A centralized Sessions screen to track the status (Working, Idle, Needs Attention) of agents across all projects.
- Git & Task Integration: Built-in syntax-highlighted diff viewers and integration with TD for AI-centric task tracking.
- Extensible Architecture: Supports "additions" (standalone executables) to integrate new terminal resource providers via a JSON protocol.
