What it solves

Akashic is an AI companion that doesn't just wait for you to talk to it. It can hold conversations, decide when to message you based on subscribed information sources, and perform background tasks during idle time — so it feels like a proactive assistant rather than a passive chatbot.

How it works

You run it with Docker (Compose 2.20+). After a one-command setup, you open a web interface at localhost:2236, connect a model in the initial configuration, and start chatting. The system stores its data in a Docker volume, supports port changes via environment variables, and provides a login-protected web UI because the web interface can execute shell commands and read/write files. For programmatic access, it uses a local Unix socket. It also supports plugins (including a web-auth plugin for the login gate) and has an Android shell integration.

Who it’s for

People who want a personal AI assistant that runs on their own hardware, can be reached remotely (with proper domain setup), and can act on its own initiative based on subscriptions or background tasks — all while keeping data local and secured behind a login.

Highlights

  • Proactive messaging based on subscribed information sources
  • Background task execution during idle time
  • Simple Docker deployment with a single compose file
  • Web interface with a default login gate (web-auth plugin) since the UI can run shell commands
  • Local Unix socket for programmatic access (SDK/CLI)
  • Plugin system and a built-in skill for developing new plugins
  • Data persistence in a Docker volume; update and backup instructions provided
