Record meetings on Omarchy: mic and computer audio as two tracks, transcribed on your own machine, with speakers, chapters and a player.
Meeting Recorder – A privacy‑first AI‑powered transcription tool for Linux
What it does
- Records your microphone and the audio your computer is playing, keeping the two streams in separate tracks.
- When you stop, it runs an on‑device Whisper model (via
whisper‑rs) to produce a full transcript with speaker labels, timestamps and optional chapter headings. - The whole pipeline runs locally – no audio or transcript is sent to any external service unless you enable Omarchy’s default coding agent for chapter generation.
Why it matters
- Keeps meeting data under your control, which is rare for transcription apps that usually rely on cloud APIs.
- Separate tracks make it easier to distinguish who said what, and the app can even diarise speakers in a single‑track import using NVIDIA’s Nemotron‑3 diarisation model.
- Tight integration with the Omarchy desktop environment gives a native GTK 4/Libadwaita UI, a compact bar widget, and theme‑aware colours.
How it works (high‑level)
- Capture –
parecrecords the default microphone and the monitor of the default output (so any meeting app works). - Encode – When you stop,
ffmpegwrites the tracks to Opus files. - Transcribe – The two tracks are mixed and fed to Whisper (
large‑v3‑turboby default). - Speaker attribution – Separate tracks give a natural split; for single‑track imports, an ONNX‑runtime‑based diarisation model separates up to eight speakers.
- Chapters (optional) – If you have an Omarchy default coding agent, the transcript is sent to that agent (locally) to generate a chapter list.
- Playback & editing – A waveform player lets you seek by clicking lines; you can edit, re‑assign, or delete transcript lines directly in the UI.
Installation & usage
- Available as an AUR package (
yay -S omarchy-meeting-recorder) or via a one‑line script that builds the Pacman package from the repo. - Can also be built from source with
cargo build --release. - Keyboard shortcuts:
Ctrl+Mtoggles a compact strip,Ctrl+Nopens a new window,Ctrl+W/Qclose, and CLI commands (omarchy-meeting-recorder start, pause, stop, compact) let you bind actions in Hyprland.
Privacy
All audio, transcription and speaker data stay on the local machine. The only outbound traffic is the optional chapter generation, which uses the Omarchy default agent you have already configured.
Who it’s for
Linux power‑users who run the Omarchy desktop (or any GTK 4 environment) and need a trustworthy, offline meeting transcription solution that respects privacy and integrates with their workflow.
