Create agents that monitor and act on your behalf. Your agents are standing by!

Huginn – Your Self‑Hosted Automation Engine

What it does Huginn lets you run agents that watch the web, listen for events, and act for you. Think of it as a self‑hosted, hackable version of IFTTT/Zapier: each agent creates an event, passes it along a directed graph, and triggers other agents. Because it runs on your own server you keep full control of your data.

Key capabilities

  • Scrape sites, monitor RSS/IMAP/webhooks/MQTT and fire alerts.
  • Weather, travel‑deal, or price‑watch notifications.
  • Detect statistical peaks or gaps in a stream of events.
  • Digest and schedule email summaries.
  • Post to Slack, Telegram, Threads, Twitter, etc., and send SMS/voice via Twilio.
  • Use OpenAI‑compatible APIs for summarisation, translation, image or speech generation.
  • Store files on Dropbox, S3, FTP or the local filesystem.
  • Write custom logic with JavaScript, Liquid templates, or jq.
  • Publish your own JSON or RSS feeds from collected events.
  • Track personal location over time.
  • Connect to any service via webhooks.

How to try it

  • Docker (quick start): docker run -it -p 3000:3000 ghcr.io/huginn/huginn then open http://localhost:3000/ and log in as admin with the password shown in the container logs.
  • Local development: clone the repo, copy .env.example → .env, install MySQL/PostgreSQL, run bundle && npm install, set up the DB with the provided rake commands, then start with bundle exec foreman start.

Running in production

  • Recommended: Docker‑Compose using the official single‑process images (ghcr.io/huginn/huginn-single-process).
  • Works on managed container platforms (Render, Fly.io, Railway, DigitalOcean App Platform) as long as you provide a persistent DB and keep a worker process alive.
  • Community packages exist for YunoHost and Unraid.

Extensibility Agents are Ruby classes; you can add new ones by writing a gem and listing it in the ADDITIONAL_GEMS env var, or contribute directly to the core repo. The project encourages community‑written gems for specialised tasks.

Community & support

  • Discussions, issue tracker, and a “suggest an agent” thread on GitHub.
  • Documentation, tutorials, and a wiki for novice setup and agent creation.
  • Sponsored hosting options listed in doc/sponsors.md.

License MIT – free to use, modify, and self‑host.

Huginn is a genuine open‑source automation platform that fits squarely in the AI/automation space, offering hooks for LLM APIs while primarily focusing on event‑driven workflows.
