Curated, live-verified OPML collections for AI, news, research, blogs, videos, podcasts, and engineering.
In one sentence
tidings-rss is a thoughtfully curated collection of 718 high-quality RSS feeds, organized into downloadable OPML bundles, maintained alongside Tidings, a macOS RSS reading app.
What it is and isn't
An RSS feed is a simple way to get new articles from a website automatically — no algorithm deciding what you see. An OPML file is just a list of feeds you can import into a reader, so you don't have to add them one by one. This project does the legwork of finding good feeds, testing them, and grouping them into bundles that fit different interests.
The repository itself is not the app — it's the feed catalog. The app, Tidings, is separate software that the README also describes, because it's the recommended way to use the catalog.
What you get
The project offers a Top 200 recommended bundle (balanced between Chinese and English sources, covering categories like AI, engineering, security, tech media, research, news, podcasts, and more) and a complete collection of 718 feeds. Between those, there are topic-specific bundles:
- Chinese independent blogs (349)
- Technical communities (14) — V2EX, Reddit, Hacker News, etc.
- Security (8)
- Technology media (10)
- Technical newsletters (9)
- WeChat official accounts (30)
- Company engineering blogs (40)
- Artificial intelligence (99)
- Fresh news (44)
- Research and science (27)
- Engineering and technology (419)
- Video channels (93)
- Podcasts (73)
- Chinese-language sources (469)
These bundles overlap — the complete collection contains each feed URL only once — but if you just want one download, the Top 200 is the stated recommendation.
How quality is decided
Feeds aren't just scraped up; they're judged. The Top 200 starts with authorship and editorial reputation (first-party institutional work, writers with a durable body of work, creators with established community recognition). Then come hard requirements: recent publishing, useful feed text, and endpoint stability (the feed link must actually work). Each candidate is checked through Tidings' production parser three times, and must return articles with real publication dates in every round. Similar sections from one publisher are deduplicated, and fast-updating release logs or generated searches don't win just because they update often. The README also notes that this verification ran on a specific network, so availability isn't guaranteed for every region or carrier — a few overseas sources may depend on local network conditions. For Chinese independent blogs, the bar is recent writing and useful content; for WeChat feeds, quick connection and fresh articles.
The whole directory is checked regularly because feeds move and disappear, and users are invited to suggest fixes via CONTRIBUTING.md.
How to use it
- Download an OPML file from the project's release page (there are SHA-256 checksums to verify integrity).
- Import it into any RSS reader that supports OPML.
- Tidings (macOS 12+) is the recommended reader because it preserves the OPML groups and keeps RSS, Atom, JSON Feed, video subscriptions, and community threads in one library.
A machine-readable catalog (data/feeds.json) and a full source directory with categories and bundle membership are also included in the repo.
The companion app: Tidings
The README devotes a lot of space to Tidings' capabilities (described as “AI-native”):
- All-in-one reading: news, blogs, videos, WeChat articles, podcasts, and images in one app.
- Podcast player: playback speed, episode downloads, a progress bar, and ±15-second skip.
- Highlighting & notes: highlight passages, write thoughts, and ask AI about the selection without leaving the article. The Notes view aggregates highlights with links back.
- AI features: a “Daily AI Radar” groups unread stories and surfaces important developments; long articles get quick summaries; follow-up questions work in-context; and foreign-language articles get paragraph-by-paragraph translations.
- Export: Pro users get unlimited Markdown export and direct Obsidian writing; PDF export stays free.
- Sync: ties into FreshRSS to sync subscriptions, categories, read state, and saved items in both directions.
- Search: millisecond global search (⌘G) to jump to a feed or article.
One important caveat from the README: AI features rely on an independent AI provider the user selects (likely requiring its own account or API key). The Tidings Pro license unlocks the software, not the AI model usage itself.
Practical details for curious readers
- License: CC0-1.0 (public domain — free to reuse).
- Validation: an automated GitHub Actions workflow checks the catalog.
- File formats included: OPML bundles, a JSON catalog, and a generated summary report.
- Project link: github.com/fuxiaoai/tidings-rss
The catalog was last checked on 2026-10-01 per the README header. If that date looks odd to you, it's just what the README states — this is a live project and its data is updated on its own schedule.
Bottom line: if you want RSS without the work of finding and vetting feeds yourself, this project hands you a pretested, organized stack — and if you're on macOS, its companion app turns that stack into a modern reading experience with AI assistance built in.
