Cloudflare MCP Server — Explainer
What it is
A repository containing several MCP servers — small programs that let AI assistants (like Claude or Cursor) talk to Cloudflare's services using natural language. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standardized way for AI models to exchange context with external systems.
What it does
These servers let an AI assistant read your Cloudflare account configuration, process that information, make suggestions based on it, and even apply those changes for you. This works across Cloudflare's products, including application development, security, and performance tools.
How it works technically
- Each server exposes a stateless HTTP handler at the path
/mcp(built with a fresh SDK v2 server factory). - The old
/sseURL is retired — it now answers every request with a410 Goneerror that points to the new/mcpURL, so MCP clients show that message when they try to connect. - Modern (2026) and stateless (2025) requests share the same request-scoped implementation — there's no persistent MCP protocol session.
- Things like OAuth, credentials, account selection, application caches, and product Durable Objects remain as application/security state where needed.
Two categories of servers
- Cloudflare API MCP Server (recommended, hosted at
mcp.cloudflare.com, maintained in a separate repocloudflare/mcp) — best for broad access across many Cloudflare APIs through code execution; uses a smaller set of general-purpose tools. - Domain-specific servers (in this repo, hosted at
*.mcp.cloudflare.com) — best for curated, typed tools for a specific product area; more guided interactions; ideal when you work primarily within one Cloudflare domain.

Deprecated servers (migrate to the Cloudflare API MCP Server): AI Gateway, Audit Logs, AutoRAG, DNS Analytics, GraphQL, Logpush, Observability, Radar, Workers Bindings, Workers Builds.
How to connect
Connect any MCP client that supports remote servers directly to a URL from the table above. Cloudflare AI Playground also accepts server URLs in its interface.
Using with OpenAI's Responses API
You need an API token with the scopes (permissions) required for that specific MCP server. Example: to use the Browser Run server with OpenAI, create an API token in the Cloudflare dashboard with the appropriate permissions (screenshot in README shows the exact settings).
Troubleshooting
If you see "Claude's response was interrupted...", Claude likely hit its context-length limit mid-reply — most common on servers that trigger many chained tool calls (like the observability server). To reduce this:
- Be specific and keep queries concise.
- Break one large request into several smaller tool calls.
Paid features
Some features may require a paid Cloudflare Workers plan — make sure your account has the necessary subscription level.
