What headcount is

headcount is an open‑source agent‑organization library that lets you treat a collection of AI skills as if they were departments in a company. The repo ships 16 “departments” (e.g. Security, Marketing, Finance) each containing a set of named skills (e.g. security:threat‑modeling, finance:unit‑economics). A project can install only the departments it needs, and the skills load automatically when a user query matches their domain.

The idea is to give LLM‑based agents a clear hierarchy and responsibility surface so that:

• Specialists answer questions in their area of expertise.
• Reviewer‑class departments (e.g. Security) can stop work that violates policy.
• Teams can be composed by mixing and matching plugins, much like installing packages.

All departments share the same skill definitions; only the manifest files differ, so a bug fix propagates to every platform.

Using the skills

When you ask a question, the system matches the query to a department and automatically loads the appropriate skill:

The department layout

Each department is a self‑contained plugin with a short list of skills. The README lists them all; a few highlights:

• Office of the CEO – strategic advice, AI‑research analysis, fundraising, SaaS idea validation.
• Technology (CTO/CIO) – AI workflow architecture, prompt optimisation, test‑driven development, observability.
• Security (CISO) – reviewer‑class; includes threat modelling, incident response, vulnerability management.
• IT Operations (CIO) – backup, cloud admin, service desk, virtualization.
• Product (CPO) – design system, product discovery, UX audit.
• Marketing (CMO) – brand voice, content strategy, video production, public relations.
• Demand Generation – landing‑page CRO, account‑based marketing, AI‑search optimisation.

In total the repo declares 172 distinct skills across the 16 departments.
