calesthio/OpenMontage
World's first open-source, agentic video production system. 12 production pipelines, 100+ tools, 700+ agent skill and production-knowledge files. Turn your AI coding assistant into a full video production studio.
What it solves
OpenMontage transforms an AI coding assistant into a complete video production studio. It eliminates the manual effort of researching, scripting, asset generation, editing, and final composition by allowing users to describe their desired video in plain language.
How it works
The system operates as an agentic pipeline where an AI agent handles the entire production lifecycle. It can start from a blank prompt or analyze a reference video (YouTube, TikTok, etc.) to extract pacing and style. The agent then researches the topic, writes a script, generates assets (images, motion clips, or sourcing real stock footage from archives like NASA and Archive.org), and manages narration via TTS.
For composition, it uses Remotion (React-based) or HyperFrames (HTML/GSAP) to render the final video, with FFmpeg handling post-production tasks like audio mixing and subtitle burn-in. A "Backlot" living storyboard provides a real-time visual interface for users to track production stages and approve assets before the final render.
Who it’s for
- Content creators wanting to automate video production.
- Developers using AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) to generate high-quality video content.
- Users seeking a low-cost or free way to create videos using open-source tools and archival footage.
Highlights
- Agentic Workflow: Fully automated pipeline from concept to final render.
- Reference-Based Generation: Ability to analyze existing videos to mimic pacing, hook style, and structure.
- Multi-Path Production: Supports image-based animation, local character animation, and real-footage documentary montages.
- Backlot Storyboard: A live visual board for monitoring production and gating creative approvals.
- Extensible Provider System: Integrates with numerous AI video/image APIs (Kling, Runway, Veo) while offering a fully free offline path using Piper TTS and open archives.
