What it solves

OpenMontage is an agentic video production system that transforms plain-language descriptions into finished videos. It eliminates the manual effort of research, scripting, asset generation, editing, and final composition by allowing an AI agent to handle the entire production pipeline.

How it works

The system operates as a pipeline-driven framework designed to be used with AI coding assistants (like Cursor or Claude Code). The agent researches the topic, writes a script, and selects the appropriate assets—either by generating them via AI providers (e.g., Kling, Veo, Flux) or retrieving real-world motion clips from open archives (Archive.org, NASA, Wikimedia Commons) and free stock sites.

It uses two primary rendering runtimes: Remotion (React-based for data-driven explainers) and HyperFrames (HTML/GSAP-based for motion graphics and kinetic typography). The final output is processed through FFmpeg for encoding and audio mixing. A local "Backlot" storyboard provides a live visual interface to track production stages, approve assets, and replay the entire run.
