Open-source AI video clipping desktop app by BridgeMind

BridgeClip – Turn Long Videos into Captioned Short‑Form Clips

What it does

  • A desktop application that lets you feed a long video (YouTube, Twitch VOD, or a local file) and automatically extracts short, captioned clips ready for social media.
  • Two main workflows:
    1. Automatic – the app finds interesting moments, frames them, adds captions and exports the clips.
    2. Review & edit – you get a list of candidate clips, can trim, re‑frame, edit captions, then export.

How it works

  • Local rendering – video encoding is done on your computer using bundled FFmpeg.
  • AI‑powered analysis – transcription, moment detection, framing suggestions, and optional editorial checks are performed by large‑language‑model calls through your own OpenRouter API key (or Claude/ChatGPT via local CLI). The app never sends your video files or API keys to BridgeMind servers.
  • Python clipping engine works behind an Electron/React UI, communicating with the AI services and handling video cuts.

Key features

  • Moment discovery using transcript metadata; choose model quality (Quality, Economy, Advanced).
  • Edit tools: trim, split, extend cuts, adjust crops, choose layout (full‑frame, split, fit), and preview synchronized source & output.
  • Export options: vertical (9:16) or horizontal (16:9), speed up 1×‑2× while preserving pitch, nine caption styles.
  • Library management: bookmark runs, search clips, track publishing status, draft titles/tags.
  • Social publishing via Zernio integration for scheduling and queue management.
  • Built‑in assistant: chat with Claude, ChatGPT, or any OpenRouter model to start jobs, edit library, export clips, or run automations.
  • Transparency: view per‑run cost, model usage, transcripts, and Jev editorial reviews.

Getting started

  1. Install the app (DMG for macOS, EXE for Windows, DEB/AppImage for Linux – bundles Python, FFmpeg, yt‑dlp).
  2. Provide an OpenRouter API key (no BridgeMind account needed).
  3. Add a video, pick a workflow/style, and let the AI do the heavy lifting.
  4. Refine in the editor if desired, then export to ~/BridgeClip or your chosen folder.

Who it’s for

  • Content creators who want to repurpose long‑form podcasts, streams, or interviews into bite‑size, captioned clips for platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts.
  • Teams that need a local, privacy‑preserving tool where AI costs are billed to their own OpenRouter account.

Tech stack

  • Frontend: Electron + React.
  • Backend: Python 3.12 clipping engine, FFmpeg (with libass for subtitles), yt‑dlp for downloading.
  • AI: Any OpenRouter‑compatible LLM (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) for transcription, moment detection, framing, and the in‑app chat assistant.

Development

  • Requires Node.js 22, Python 3.12, and FFmpeg with the ass filter.
  • Open source under MIT; contributions accepted via GitHub after maintainer approval.
