The open-source collaboration system for people and AI agents. Share context, coordinate tasks, and work in parallel with your team, cloud agents, Codex, Claude Code, Grok, Grok Bot, OpenCode, Antigravity, and Cursor.

OpenMeld – A collaborative AI‑agent workspace

What it is – OpenMeld is a TypeScript‑based platform that lets human teams work together with AI agents (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Grok Build, etc.) in shared “Spaces”. A cloud‑hosted Center Agent can coordinate tasks, keep files and conversation context, and hand work off to local agents running on a user’s own computer.

Key components

  • Web app – hosted at app.openmeld.ai for creating/joining workspaces.
  • Desktop clients – Electron apps for macOS (stable) and Windows (preview).
  • CLI – an npm package (openmeld) that registers a local machine as an agent, links it to a workspace, and runs tasks while the computer stays online.
  • Backend – Cloudflare‑fronted services with PostgreSQL for persisting spaces, files, and agent memory.

Main features

Feature How OpenMeld does it
Run local agents Install the CLI, run openmeld setup, then create a Local Agent that points to a folder on your machine. The agent can read/write those files while you stay connected.
Team chat & task board Built‑in chat rooms per Space where people and agents converse. Tasks can be created for humans or agents and may require approval before execution.
File & folder sharing Each Space stores a hierarchy of files; agents can access them, and version history is kept.
Public sharing links Generate links that let anyone view a Space without an account.
Hosted cloud agents The Center Agent runs in the cloud, coordinating work and offering a free personal cloud computer (compute‑only, model usage is billed separately).
Knowledge base & memory Spaces act as a knowledge repository; the system remembers context across chats and can retrieve prior file versions.
Plugins / Skills Users can add “Skills” (saved instructions) and install 60+ plugins that expose extra tools to agents.

Getting started

  1. Open the web app, create or join a workspace.
  2. Open the Center Agent and give it a simple task (e.g., turn notes into an agenda).
  3. To involve your own machine, install the CLI via npm i -g openmeld, run openmeld setup, and register a Local Agent.

Who it’s for – Teams that want a single place where humans and AI assistants can share context, hand off work, and keep a persistent record of files and conversations. It is especially useful for developers who already run AI‑powered coding assistants locally and want those assistants to participate in a broader collaborative workflow.

License – Core code is MIT‑licensed; third‑party assets keep their original licenses.

Further reading – Docs, quick‑start guide, and contribution info are linked from the README; a detailed comparison with similar products (Raft, Multica, Dust, etc.) is included in the repo.
