ai-builders-foundation/ai-builders-curriculum
Open, vendor-neutral curriculum and hackathon starter kits for learning to build full-stack AI applications end-to-end. MIT-licensed. A project of the AI Builders Foundation (501c3).
What it solves
This project provides a structured path for developers to move from basic coding skills to building and deploying a complete, full-stack AI application. It removes the barrier of complex setup by providing vendor-neutral starter kits that run locally without requiring API keys or heavy framework dependencies.
How it works
The curriculum is divided into six modules covering data storage, user authentication, API design, AI integration, deployment, and AI transparency. These lessons are paired with three practical starter kits: a notes app with AI summarization, a RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) chat app, and a "glassbox" version of that RAG app that exposes the hidden configuration decisions behind AI responses.
Who it’s for
- Self-learners with basic programming knowledge who want to build real-world AI software.
- Educators and bootcamp instructors looking for an open-source, adaptable syllabus.
- Hackathon organizers who need a reliable, pre-configured baseline for participants.
Highlights
- Includes three complete, runnable starter kits (no toy demos).
- Vendor-neutral stack ensures skills are transferable across different tools.
- Offline demo mode allows for immediate testing without API keys.
- Transparent AI module teaches how to identify and control hidden model behaviors.
- MIT-licensed and free forever, maintained by a non-profit foundation.
