ZiChuanLan/agent-purge

One persona, many coding agents. Replace or inject system prompts across codex, claude, opencode, grok, omp, hermes, pi, zcode - with a local web console.

What it solves

Coding agents often store their system prompts in different, hard-to-reach places—some in configuration files, others in startup parameters or internal plugins. This makes it difficult to manage or customize the "persona" (system instructions) for multiple agents consistently. This tool provides a unified way to inject, swap, or remove these instructions across different coding agents on your local machine.

How it works

It manages a central library of persona files (personas/<id>.md) and applies them to your local coding agents through three channels:

  • Install: Writes to the agent's configuration files for permanent effect.
  • Shim: Intercepts commands via a local shell wrapper.
  • Slash: Allows hot-swapping instructions mid-session using commands like /purge on.

It supports four modes: replace (swaps instructions), strict (replaces the entire system prompt), append (adds to existing instructions), and off (reverts all changes). All modifications are local, reversible, and do not touch binary files or bypass security.

Who it’s for

Developers who use multiple local coding agents and want a centralized, easy way to experiment with different system prompts or "personas" without manually editing individual configuration files for every tool.

Highlights

  • Unified Management: Control system prompts for various agents from one interface.
  • Hot-Switching: Change personas on the fly without restarting your agents.
  • Reversible: Easily revert all changes to the original state with no residual files.
  • Magpie Integration: Optional support for the Magpie gateway to apply personas across multiple agents simultaneously.
  • Data Privacy: All state is stored locally on your machine; no data is uploaded.
