WindChimeEcho/read-bridge

AI-enhanced reading tool for immersive language learning using the n+1 method. Learn languages by staying in the target language ecosystem, with a flow-state focused interface.

What it solves

ReadBridge tackles the problem of learning a foreign language through rote memorization of vocabulary and grammar rules, which is often ineffective and forgettable. Instead, it applies the "n+1" comprehensible input theory: learners read texts where only 1-2 words per 100 are unknown, and encounter each new word at least 12 times in different contexts to truly master it. The project aims to make reading in the target language a natural, immersive learning experience without heavy reliance on translation to the native language.

How it works

ReadBridge is both a web app (Next.js) and a desktop app (Tauri) that lets you import and read books or texts sentence by sentence. When you encounter a difficult passage or word, you can ask the built-in AI assistant for an explanation — but the AI responds in the target language, keeping you immersed. You set your own proficiency level and can customize prompt templates to control how much help you get. The app tracks your reading position, manages your book library, and offers a clean, distraction-free interface. Your API keys for AI providers are stored only in your browser's local storage, never on a server.

Who it's for

Language learners who want to improve through extended reading in their target language, especially those who follow or are curious about the comprehensible input approach. It suits both casual readers and serious students, and works in any modern browser or as a native desktop application on Windows, macOS, and Linux.
