Evaluate OMR sheets fast and accurately using a scanner 🖨 or your phone 🤳.
What it solves
OMRChecker automates the process of reading and evaluating Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets, such as those used in exams and surveys. It eliminates the tedious manual grading of human-marked documents by converting scanned images or phone photos of these sheets into digital responses.
How it works
The software uses computer vision (via OpenCV) to detect and interpret marks on a document. Users configure a layout template in a JSON file to define where the responses are located. Once configured, the tool processes images—supporting various angles, colors, and even PDF files—and outputs the detected responses and scores into a CSV or Excel sheet.
Who it’s for
Educators, researchers, and organizers of large-scale exams (like Technothlon) who need a fast, accurate, and customizable way to grade OMR sheets without expensive proprietary software.
Highlights
- High Speed: Processes over 200 OMRs per minute.
- Robustness: Works with low-resolution images, xeroxed sheets, and photos taken from various angles.
- Customizable: Supports custom OMR layouts and surveys via JSON templates.
- Accuracy: Nearly 100% accurate on high-quality scans and approximately 90% on mobile images.
- PDF Support: Natively supports PDF files via PyMuPDF.
