Twigpine/zero
The coding agent that answers to you, your model, your machine, your rules.
Zero – a locally‑run AI coding assistant for the terminal
What it is – Zero is a command‑line tool (written in Go) that lets you talk to a large language model and have the model act on your code base. It can read files, edit them, run shell commands, fetch web pages, and keep a persistent, searchable session on disk. You choose the model (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Ollama, etc.) and the level of permission the agent has.
How you use it
- Interactive TUI – run
zeroto open a terminal UI with slash‑commands, model picker, themes, and live plan rendering. - Scripted mode –
zero exec "fix the failing test"runs a one‑off request, suitable for CI pipelines. It supports plain text, JSON, or a streaming JSON protocol for complex workflows. - Session management – sessions are stored locally, can be resumed, forked, or rewound. Permissions (file writes, shell commands, network access) are gated by a sandbox policy you can inspect and extend.
Key features
- Model‑agnostic – works with any OpenAI‑ or Anthropic‑compatible endpoint, plus many other providers (Groq, DeepSeek, Mistral, etc.).
- Safety controls – default read‑only workspace, explicit opt‑in for writes, network, or elevated commands; secrets are redacted.
- Extensibility – plugins, hooks, and “specialist” sub‑agents can add custom tools or markdown‑based skills. MCP servers let you expose tools over a standard stdio protocol.
- Cross‑platform – binaries for Linux, macOS, Windows; also an npm wrapper that fetches the appropriate binary.
- No telemetry – all context stays on your machine unless you choose otherwise.
Who it’s for – developers who want an AI‑powered pair programmer that runs entirely locally, with fine‑grained control over what the model can do, and that can be integrated into scripts or CI.
Getting started – install via npm (npm i -g @gitlawb/zero), a curl install script, or build from source with Go 1.26+. Run zero setup to add a provider key, then start the UI or use zero exec.
Community & support – Discord server, GitHub Discussions, and a full set of docs (install, themes, stream‑JSON protocol, benchmarks, etc.).
