Open Brain — The infrastructure layer for your thinking. One database, one AI gateway, one chat channel — any AI plugs in. No middleware, no SaaS.
What it solves
Open Brain provides a unified, persistent memory layer for all the AI tools you use. Instead of each AI (like Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor) having its own isolated memory, Open Brain creates a single database with vector search that acts as a shared "brain" across different AI clients, eliminating the need for fragmented data across multiple SaaS chains or middleware.
How it works
It functions as an infrastructure layer consisting of a database (typically Supabase/PostgreSQL with pgvector), an AI gateway, and capture channels (like Slack or Discord). It uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to allow various AI clients to plug into this shared memory. Users can extend the system with "recipes" for importing data from sources like Obsidian, Gmail, or X/Twitter, and "skills" (prompt packs) to teach AI agents how to interact with the system.
Who it’s for
Individuals and power users who use multiple AI tools and want a single, governed source of truth for their personal and professional knowledge, memories, and workflows.
Highlights
- Unified Memory: A single database that serves as persistent memory for any AI tool that supports the protocol.
- Extensible Architecture: A wide array of community-contributed recipes for data import (e.g., ChatGPT, Perplexity, Obsidian) and specialized agent skills.
- MCP Integration: Uses the Model Context Protocol to connect seamlessly with clients like Claude Desktop, Cursor, and ChatGPT.
- Modular Extensions: Pre-built paths to create specialized knowledge bases for household management, professional CRMs, and job hunt pipelines.
- Multi-channel Capture: Ability to capture thoughts and data via Slack, Discord, or custom edge functions.
