A tiny friend in your Mac's notch and on your iPhone that keeps an eye on your AI coding agents: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Antigravity and more. Approve from the notch or your Lock Screen.
Coucou – a tiny on‑screen companion for AI‑coding agents
What it is – Coucou is an open‑source desktop (macOS, Windows, Linux) and mobile (iPhone, Android) app that lives in the notch (or a thin bar at the top of the screen) and acts as a visual dashboard for AI‑coding agents such as Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini‑CLI, Copilot‑CLI, etc. It lets you watch an agent’s actions in real time, approve or deny permission requests, chat with the model, and perform auxiliary tasks (dictation, call transcription, music control, crypto portfolio, etc.) without leaving your current workflow.
Why it matters – Modern AI‑coding assistants run in the background and often need user confirmation (e.g., to edit files or run commands). Coucou brings those interactions into a tiny, always‑visible UI that can be controlled by mouse, keyboard shortcuts, or voice (“OK Coucou”). All data stays on your device; keys are stored in the OS keychain and no telemetry is sent.
Key capabilities
- Agent monitoring – a “pill” in the notch shows live diffs, file‑change counts, and lets you jump to the terminal where the agent is running.
- Approve/deny prompts – one‑click decisions for Claude Code, Codex, etc., with optional “always allow”.
- Chat & multi‑model support – switch between Claude, Gemini, OpenAI, DeepSeek, Qwen, Moonshot, or a local Ollama/LM Studio model; cloud providers use your own API key, local models connect to a server on your machine.
- Voice dictation (Flow) – hold a configurable key, speak, and have the transcribed text pasted into any app. Supports offline Parakeet on Apple Silicon or the built‑in macOS recogniser.
- Notetaker – record a call, get per‑speaker transcript, AI‑generated summary and to‑dos (Claude or Apple Intelligence). Audio is deleted after transcription.
- Cross‑device sync – iPhone and Android companions show the same session state, allow approvals, and expose widgets, Live Activities, and Siri/Shortcuts integration. Sync is done via the user’s private iCloud CloudKit database; nothing is stored on Coucou servers.
- Additional “pills” – music control (Apple Music, Spotify), crypto‑portfolio view, plan‑usage meters for Claude/Codex, and custom integrations (Stripe, GitHub, Vercel, Notion, n8n, etc.).
- Customizable mascot – a small animated character named Mochi reacts to cursor movement, can be dragged onto the desktop, dressed up, and even speaks responses.
- Statistics & weekly recap – local logs of words dictated, time saved, agents used, and a generated image summary of the past week.
Supported platforms
- macOS 15+ (native Swift 6 / SwiftUI app, also distributed via GitHub builds)
- iOS 18+ (TestFlight, soon App Store) – lock‑screen, Dynamic Island, widgets, Siri
- Android 11+ (APK, Wi‑Fi link to Windows/Linux Coucou)
- Windows 10/11 (Tauri 2 UI, same feature set as macOS, minus some macOS‑only integrations)
- Linux (AppImage, .deb, .rpm packages; same core features as Windows)
License – MIT License for the code. The mascot name, artwork, and sound assets are © Louis Raillé.
Getting started
- Download the appropriate installer from the Releases page (macOS, Windows, Linux, Android APK). iPhone users join the TestFlight link.
- Run the app; a small pill appears at the top of the screen. Configure your AI provider keys in Settings → Chat.
- Hold the configured dictation key (default right ⌥) to start voice dictation, or click the pill to open the Coucou window.
- When an AI‑coding agent runs, its status appears in the notch; approve/deny or chat directly from there.
Why you might love it – It keeps AI‑assistant feedback in view without stealing screen real‑estate, works offline for dictation, and respects privacy by keeping all keys and data local. The playful Mochi mascot adds a light‑hearted UI while still delivering serious productivity tools for developers who rely on LLM‑driven coding assistants.
