CopilotKit/OpenIntelligentUI
Open-Source Generative UI Framework
What it solves
Open Intelligent UI addresses the limitation of static text responses in AI chat interfaces. It transforms standard chat answers into interactive, visual, and functional tools—such as 3D models, interactive charts, and calculators—that allow users to explore data and concepts more dynamically than text alone.
How it works
The system uses a Python-based "Deep Agent" with a task-first system prompt and specific skills. This agent is integrated into a Next.js frontend via CopilotKit. Depending on the request, the agent selects a renderer: basic tables use A2UI, while more complex visuals like charts, maps, and calculators are handled by Open Generative UI. Custom interactive elements are streamed as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript into an isolated iframe using a generateSandboxedUi tool, allowing for local controls and interactive feedback.
Who it’s for
Developers looking to build AI interfaces that go beyond text-based chat to provide interactive visualizations, functional mini-tools, and dynamic explanations within a conversation.
Highlights
- Interactive Tool Generation: Can create on-the-fly tools like bill splitters or planners with working controls.
- Dynamic Visualizations: Supports 3D explanations (e.g., rotating aircraft models), interactive maps with pins and photos, and data charts.
- Sandboxed Execution: Streams custom UI code into isolated iframes for security and functionality.
- Flexible Routing: Uses a visualization router (Jev) to decide whether to provide a text answer, a native component, or a custom interactive UI.
