A macOS menu bar app that shows your Claude API usage at a glance

What it solves

Claude Usage Bar removes the need to manually refresh the Claude usage page to check how close you are to hitting your rate limits. It keeps that information permanently visible in your Mac's menu bar, so you always know your remaining usage at a glance.

How it works

After signing in with your Claude account through your browser, the app reads your usage data from Anthropic's API. It stores your sign-in tokens and usage history locally in ~/.config/claude-usage-bar/. The menu bar icon shows two mini bars representing your 5-hour and 7-day limits. A popover gives detailed numbers for each limit, per-model breakdowns when available, extra usage in USD, and a hoverable history chart covering the last hour to 30 days. The app refreshes every 30 minutes by default (configurable from 5 minutes to 1 hour) and can send notifications when you pass a chosen percentage of a limit.

Who it's for

It's for macOS (14 or later) users who subscribe to Claude and want a lightweight, always-on way to monitor their usage without constantly opening a browser tab.
