AienTech/dossier

A self-hosted job search app that writes tailored resumes and cover letters from your profile.

What it solves

Job searching usually means rewriting your resume and cover letter for every position, keeping track of dozens of applications, and worrying about privacy when feeding personal data to online tools. Dossier solves this by giving you one self-hosted workspace where you maintain a single career profile, generate job-specific documents that only use facts from that profile, and manage your whole application pipeline in one place — without letting a third-party service own your data.

How it works

You start by building a profile in Dossier: basics, skills, experience, projects, education, and more, with a strength meter that shows what’s missing. You can import an existing resume (PDF, Word, or Markdown) to seed it. From that profile, Dossier creates a base resume with twelve themes and a theme builder, previewed live and printable to PDF.

When you find a job posting (via JSearch, Adzuna, YC startups, or Hacker News), you paste it into a new application. Dossier extracts the requirements, matches them against your profile, shows how you match, and writes a tailored resume and cover letter in the tone you choose. It never invents experience — anything the posting asks for that your profile doesn’t have is shown as a gap, not fabricated.

You can refine the documents in a chat, edit any part, undo changes, and keep private notes. For sending, Dossier drafts an email to the recipient with the PDFs attached, which you can review before sending. Optional integrations let you connect Gmail and Calendar to send from your own address, see replies, and keep interviews in sync. A Claude connector lets you use Dossier from Claude apps. A daily job agent can run searches and score new postings, preparing drafts for your review without ever sending or applying.

Everything runs on your own server. You choose an AI model — a local one via Ollama or LM Studio so your data stays on your hardware, or a hosted one (any OpenAI-compatible API, Anthropic, or Mistral). Data is stored in your own PostgreSQL database, and you can export/import everything or use nightly backups.

Who it’s for

This is for a single job seeker who wants full control over their job-search data and documents, prefers a desktop/laptop experience, and is comfortable running a self-hosted app on a personal server (or local machine with Docker). It’s also for people who want to use either local or hosted AI models and who value privacy and transparency about where data goes.
