FinRL-X: An AI-Native Modular Infrastructure for Quantitative Trading
What it solves
FinRL-X provides a modular, production-ready infrastructure for quantitative trading. It solves the problem of fragmentation in the trading pipeline by unifying data acquisition, strategy development, backtesting, and live execution into a single system, ensuring that the same logic used in research is deployed consistently in live trading.
How it works
The system uses a "weight-centric architecture" where the target portfolio weight vector serves as the universal interface between all modules. The pipeline follows a specific flow: stock selection $\to$ portfolio allocation $\to$ timing adjustment $\to$ risk overlay. Because every module adheres to this weight-based contract, users can swap individual components (e.g., replacing a simple equal-weight allocator with a Deep Reinforcement Learning agent) without altering the rest of the pipeline.
Who it’s for
It is designed for quantitative researchers and algorithmic traders who want to build and deploy AI-driven strategies—ranging from classical optimization to DRL and LLM-based sentiment analysis—with professional-grade backtesting and brokerage integration.
Highlights
- End-to-End Pipeline: Integrates data fetching (Yahoo Finance, FMP, WRDS), strategy generation,
bt-powered backtesting, and live execution via Alpaca. - Modular Strategy Composition: Supports diverse allocation paradigms including Mean-Variance, Minimum Variance, and DRL (PPO/SAC).
- Risk Management: Includes built-in portfolio-level risk overlays, trailing stop-losses, and market regime detection (e.g., VIX-based risk-off signals).
- Deployment Consistency: Ensures that the weight vectors generated during offline backtesting flow identically into live brokerage execution.
