49-Agents/49-IDE

Open-source 2D IDE for managing AI agents in native CLIs, terminal, gits, beads issues, and files across multiple projects and machines. Self-host on a single machine via localhost OR host on a cluster via Tailscale OR connect to app.49agents.com (coming soon)

What it solves

49 Agents IDE is designed to eliminate the clutter of managing multiple terminal tabs, SSH connections, and separate windows for AI agents and code editors. It replaces the traditional tabbed interface with a unified, zoomable 2D canvas where all terminals, projects, and machines can bet managed in one space.

How it works

The system uses a relay architecture where a 49-agent is installed on each machine you wish to connect. These agents connect to a central relay (which can be self-hosted or cloud-hosted) via WebSockets. This allows you to access your terminals and files via a browser on any device (laptop, tablet, or phone) without needing to perform manual SSH connections for every session.

Who it’s for

Developers and AI agent operators who manage complex workflows across multiple machines and multiple terminal sessions, and who prefer a spatial organization of their workspace rather than a tabbed one.

Highlights

  • Infinite 2D Canvas: A zoomable surface to arrange panes, terminals, and editors without the limits of screen splits or tabs.
  • Multi-Machine Integration: Connect multiple machines to one canvas with zero SSH required.
  • Integrated Tooling: Includes a Monaco editor, Git graph, and interactive issue tables (Beads).
  • Broadcast Input: The ability to send keystrokes to multiple terminals simultaneously.
  • Self-Hosting: The entire stack can be fully self-hosted to ensure terminal I/O is relayed but never persisted server-side.
