Workspace agents are an evolution of GPTs powered by Codex, designed for teams to build shared agents that handle complex tasks and long‑running workflows within organizational permissions.

Creating a workspace agent

To get started, click Agents in the ChatGPT sidebar and describe a workflow your team does often; ChatGPT guides you step by step to turn it into an agent.

Core capabilities

Workspace agents run in the cloud, can write or run code, use connected apps, remember what they’ve learned, and continue work across multiple steps.

Deployment across tools

Teams can interact with agents in ChatGPT and Slack, with more surfaces coming soon; agents can join conversations and workflows where work already happens.

Governance and controls

Admins decide what tools and data an agent can use, what actions it can take, and when it needs approval; analytics show runs and unique users, and the Compliance API provides visibility into configuration, updates, and runs.

Availability and pricing

Workspace agents are available in research preview for ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, Edu, and Teachers plans; they will be free until May 6, 2026, with credit‑based pricing starting on that date.

Future plans

OpenAI will add new triggers for automatic work starts, improved dashboards, more ways for agents to act across business tools, and support for workspace agents in the Codex app.
