Canva uses OpenAI's foundational models to consolidate multiple AI modalities—including text, image, and video—into a single, intuitive workflow. This integration allows Canva to provide advanced AI capabilities without complicating the user interface for its 175 million monthly users.

The Magic Studio suite includes several key tools powered by OpenAI:

  • Magic Write: An AI writing assistant powered by OpenAI's API. It supports outlining, paragraph generation, rewriting, paraphrasing, grammar checking, and summarizing. Users have written over 10 billion words using this tool.
  • Magic Design: A design generation tool that combines OpenAI's API with Canva's proprietary AI design engine and a library of over 100 million assets and templates. It generates presentations, social media posts, and videos based on user prompts.
  • Magic Switch: A tool that leverages OpenAI's API and vision technology to parse and understand design content.
