ChatGPT WhatsApp Integration Discontinuation
ChatGPT will be unavailable on WhatsApp starting January 15, 2026
OpenAI has announced that ChatGPT will no longer be available on WhatsApp after January 15, 2026. This discontinuation is the result of policy and terms changes from WhatsApp.
Transitioning to the ChatGPT App and Web Platforms
To maintain access to AI capabilities and preserve conversation history, users are encouraged to move to official ChatGPT platforms. ChatGPT is available on iOS, Android, the web, and ChatGPT Atlas for MacOS. These platforms offer expanded features not available on WhatsApp, including:
- Voice conversations
- Deep research
- File uploads
How to Link and Migrate Conversation History
Because WhatsApp does not support chat exports, users must manually link their accounts to prevent the loss of their conversation history. Once linked, the phone number used on WhatsApp will be associated with the ChatGPT account, and past WhatsApp conversations will appear in the ChatGPT history.
The migration process involves three steps:
- Download the ChatGPT app on Android, iOS, or desktop.
- Create and sign in to a ChatGPT account.
- Link the account via WhatsApp: Users can link their account by visiting the contact profile of "1-800-ChatGPT" in WhatsApp and clicking the provided URL.
Critical Deadlines and Support
OpenAI states that WhatsApp conversations will not transfer automatically after January 15, 2026. Users are recommended to link their accounts soon to maintain their history. ChatGPT will remain functional on WhatsApp until the cutoff date, and OpenAI will provide reminders leading up to the transition.
