OpenAI launches OpenAI Deployment Company to accelerate enterprise AI adoption

OpenAI has launched the OpenAI Deployment Company (DeployCo), a standalone business unit dedicated to helping organizations build and deploy reliable AI systems across their most critical work. This initiative marks a shift toward focusing on the operational integration of frontier AI, moving beyond model access to the redesign of organizational infrastructure and workflows.

Strategic Objective: Bridging the Gap Between AI Capability and Operational Impact

The OpenAI Deployment Company's primary goal is to help businesses move from identifying high-value AI opportunities to building production systems that deliver measurable results. OpenAI identifies the next stage of enterprise AI as being defined by how effectively businesses can integrate this technology into real-world use cases.

As models become more capable of reasoning and acting, the company aims to help organizations rethink critical workflows from the ground up rather than simply adding AI to existing processes. This is achieved by embedding Forward Deployed Engineers (FDEs) directly into customer organizations to work alongside business leaders, operators, and frontline teams.

Operational Model and the Role of Forward Deployed Engineers

The OpenAI Deployment Company operates as an extension of OpenAI, ensuring customers remain connected to the research and product teams shaping frontier AI. This connection allows FDEs to build systems that are designed to improve as new models and tools are released.

A typical engagement follows a structured process:

  1. Diagnostic: A focused analysis to identify where AI can create the most value.
  2. Workflow Selection: Selection of a small number of priority workflows in collaboration with leadership.
  3. Implementation: FDEs design, build, test, and deploy production systems, connecting OpenAI models to the customer's specific data, tools, controls, and business processes.

Acquisition of Tomoro and Initial Scaling

To accelerate its capabilities from day one, OpenAI has agreed to acquire Tomoro, an applied AI consulting and engineering firm. This acquisition brings approximately 150 experienced Forward Deployed Engineers and Deployment Specialists into the OpenAI Deployment Company.

Tomoro's expertise includes building real-time AI systems for companies such as Tesco, Virgin Atlantic, and Supercell, focusing on reliability, integration, and governance in mission-critical workflows. The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

Investment and Partnership Ecosystem

The OpenAI Deployment Company is majority-owned and controlled by OpenAI and launches with more than $4 billion of initial investment. This capital will be used to scale operations and acquire firms that accelerate the mission of ensuring AGI benefits humanity.

The company is supported by a partnership of 19 leading global investment firms, consultancies, and system integrators, including:
