ChatGPT Personal Finance Experience Release
ChatGPT Personal Finance Experience Release
OpenAI has launched a preview of a personal finance experience in ChatGPT that allows users to securely connect their financial accounts to receive personalized, grounded financial insights. This integration enables ChatGPT to combine its reasoning capabilities with real-time financial data to help users identify spending patterns, understand tradeoffs, and plan for major financial decisions.
Secure Financial Account Integration
ChatGPT now supports the secure linking of financial accounts through Plaid, with support for over 12,000 financial institutions. Intuit support is expected to be added in the future. Once connected, users can access a financial dashboard providing an up-to-date view of portfolio performance, spending, subscriptions, and upcoming payments.
Users can initiate this setup by selecting "Finances" from the sidebar or by using the command @Finances, connect my accounts.
Personalized Financial Context and Memory
To enhance the accuracy of financial guidance, ChatGPT utilizes "Financial memories." Users can share specific context—such as mortgage details, savings goals, or personal loans—which the model saves to inform future conversations. This allows the system to connect data across accounts and user-defined goals rather than treating each query in isolation.
Technical Foundation and Performance
The personal finance experience defaults to the GPT-5.5 Thinking reasoning model. OpenAI developed an internal benchmark with over 50 finance professionals to evaluate response quality and accuracy on complex personal finance tasks.
According to this benchmark, which uses a weighted composite of expert-graded quality and accuracy:
- GPT-5.5 Thinking (the default model) scored 79 out of 100.
- GPT-5.5 Pro (available to Pro users) scored 82.5 out of 100.
Privacy and Data Control
OpenAI has implemented several controls to ensure user privacy and data security:
- Access Limits: ChatGPT can access balances, transactions, investments, and liabilities, but it cannot see full account numbers or execute changes to accounts.
- Disconnecting Accounts: Users can disconnect accounts via Settings; synced data is deleted from OpenAI systems within 30 days of disconnection.
- Memory Management: Users can view or delete specific financial memories at any time from the Finances page.
- Temporary Chats: When using temporary chat mode, ChatGPT does not access connected financial accounts, and the session is not saved to history.
- Training Settings: Conversations with connected accounts follow the user's existing ChatGPT data control and model training settings.
Future Ecosystem Integration
OpenAI is partnering with ecosystem providers like Intuit to move from providing answers to enabling actions. Planned integrations include allowing users to submit credit card applications based on AI recommendations or scheduling sessions with live tax experts after receiving tax estimates within the ChatGPT interface.
Availability
As of June 25, 2026, the personal finance experience is available to Plus and Pro users in the U.S. on web, iOS, and Android. It was initially released as a preview for Pro users in the U.S.
