Anthropic expands Asia-Pacific presence with new Singapore office and government partnership

Strategic Expansion into Singapore

Anthropic has officially established a new office in Singapore, marking its fifth location in the Asia-Pacific region. This expansion is driven by high regional demand, as Singapore currently ranks second globally in Claude.ai usage relative to its population. The local team will focus on supporting organizations that require high standards for AI reliability and security, facilitating closer collaboration with partners already utilizing Claude for government and business services.

Memorandum of Understanding on AI Safety

Anthropic and the Singapore Ministry of Digital Development and Information have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalize cooperation in several key areas. The agreement, signed by Anthropic co-founder Ben Mann and Permanent Secretary Kai Fong Chng, focuses on:

  • AI Safety and Evaluation: Joint efforts in model testing, security standards, and incident response protocols.
  • Research and Policy: Sharing data and technical expertise to inform Singapore’s regulatory framework for AI.
  • Responsible Adoption: Initiatives to build AI skills within the public sector and support small-to-medium enterprises in adopting AI technologies.

This partnership builds upon previous collaborations, including participation in the Generative AI Evaluation Sandbox and multi-language red-teaming projects conducted with the Infocomm Media Development Authority and the AI Verify Foundation.

Current AI Integration in Singaporean Infrastructure

Claude is already integrated into several major Singaporean institutions across the public and private sectors:

  • Public Sector: Over 1,500 engineers at GovTech Singapore utilize Claude Code to modernize digital services, while the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore is evaluating Claude for cyber defense applications.
  • Financial Services: DBS Bank and GIC are deploying Claude within their respective security and governance frameworks. Organizations in these regulated sectors can leverage in-region inference via Amazon Bedrock to meet data processing requirements.
  • Technology and Enterprise: Companies including Grab and Sea are using Claude to optimize internal productivity and customer-facing tools, such as Grab’s BriX sales assistant and Shopee’s customer service chatbots.

Commitment to the Developer Community

To support the local ecosystem, Anthropic is actively engaging with the Singaporean developer community through events like the Builder Summit Singapore, which hosted over 300 developers. The company has confirmed that the new Singapore office is currently hiring, aiming to deepen its technical and policy presence in the region.
