Waypoint-1.5 Release Notes

Waypoint-1.5 Release Notes

Waypoint-1.5 is a real-time video world model designed to bring interactive generative environments to consumer-grade hardware. By optimizing for local execution, Waypoint-1.5 enables users to explore and interact with generated worlds in real time without requiring datacenter-scale compute.

Hardware Compatibility and Performance

Waypoint-1.5 provides two distinct model tiers to balance visual fidelity with hardware accessibility:

  • High-Performance Tier: On desktop hardware ranging from RTX 3090 to RTX 5090, the model can generate environments at up to 720p resolution and 60 FPS.
  • Broad Accessibility Tier: A 360p model is available to ensure smooth performance across a wider range of consumer hardware, including gaming laptops and upcoming support for Apple Silicon Macs.

Technical Improvements and Training

Waypoint-1.5 introduces significant scaling and efficiency upgrades over the original Waypoint release:

  • Increased Training Data: The model was trained on nearly 100x more data than Waypoint-1, resulting in more coherent environments and more consistent motion over time.
  • Computational Efficiency: The model incorporates more efficient video modeling techniques to reduce redundant computation across frames, prioritizing responsiveness and temporal coherence over single-frame fidelity.

The Role of Responsiveness in World Models

While many generative video models focus on visual fidelity, Waypoint-1.5 prioritizes responsiveness—the ability of an environment to react instantly to user input. The goal is to bridge the gap between passive video generation and active exploration, transforming world models from impressive demos into foundations for simulation, creative tooling, and interactive entertainment that can run locally.

Deployment and Access Options

Users can experience Waypoint-1.5 through three primary channels:

  1. Local Execution: Via the Overworld Biome desktop client, which features a simplified installer flow for rapid local setup.
  2. Browser-Based Access: Via Overworld Stream, allowing for immediate testing without local installation.
  3. Developer Tools: The World Engine inference library provides the core power for official and third-party clients.

Available Model Weights

Two versions of the weights are available on the Hugging Face Hub:

  • Waypoint-1.5-1B
  • Waypoint-1.5-1B-360P
