Anthropic Expands GSA Partnership to Offer Government-Wide Claude Discounts

New GSA Agreement and Pricing Structure

Anthropic has entered into an expanded partnership with the General Services Administration (GSA) to provide a 40% discount on Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government, and the Claude API. This discount structure is designed to support public sector entities by removing the need for large upfront financial commitments, allowing agencies to pay only for the usage they consume. The agreement covers federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial governments and will be available both for direct purchases and through cloud providers in the coming months. The initiative is projected to generate $1 billion in savings for government organizations.

Public Sector Adoption and Use Cases

Usage of Claude within the public sector has seen significant growth, with approximately 500 government organizations now utilizing the platform. Weekly active users for Claude for Government have increased eightfold since February, while usage across federal civilian agencies has grown 20-fold over the past year. Agencies are leveraging Claude for tasks such as managing backlogs, processing records, and modernizing legacy code.

Key performance metrics reported by agencies include:

  • Development Efficiency: In a Utah pilot, 80% of developers established a working environment within 30 minutes using Claude Code, with 71% reporting more than 20 hours saved over four weeks.
  • Cybersecurity Response: A state-level team reduced ransomware response time from 2-3 days to 8 minutes. Additionally, a federal security team identified and patched a critical production vulnerability in two days using Claude Mythos, a task that had been missed by previous human penetration testing.
  • Legacy Modernization: A state IT developer migrated 900 API methods in two days, a project originally scoped for one month. Another IT director used Claude Code to document 12 legacy repositories, mapping 467 database tables and identifying 27 risks.

Security and Compliance Standards

To support sensitive, unclassified government work, Anthropic provides Claude for Government, which achieved FedRAMP High authorization on September 30. Agencies can also access Claude via cloud partners with specific security credentials:

  • Amazon Bedrock: Claude is authorized for FedRAMP High, with select models authorized for DoD IL4 and IL5 workloads in AWS GovCloud.
  • Google Cloud Vertex AI: Claude is authorized for FedRAMP High.
  • Claude Enterprise: This product is currently in the process of obtaining FedRAMP Moderate authorization through the FedRAMP 20x program.

Implementation Support

Anthropic is launching a dedicated program to assist government agencies in implementing Claude. This program aims to translate best practices from private sector deployments to the public sector, helping agencies integrate agentic and coding capabilities into their existing workflows. Agencies can access these discounts today via the GSA's Multiple Award Schedule.
