ChatGPT Ads expands to Southeast Asia and Taiwan
OpenAI has expanded ChatGPT Ads to Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Taiwan. This expansion increases the availability of the advertising platform to over 60 countries, enabling businesses of all sizes to reach users during their goal-oriented conversations.
Regional Expansion and Access
ChatGPT Ads are now available in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, following previous launches in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, and India. Businesses can access the advertising platform through three primary channels:
- OpenAI Ads Solutions team: Direct partnership with OpenAI.
- Agency partners: Including dentsu, Havas Media, Omnicom Media, Publicis Groupe, and WPP.
- Self-service: Eligible businesses can use the Ads Manager at ads.openai.com.
Ad Placement and User Tiers
Advertising is restricted to specific user tiers to maintain the value of paid subscriptions. Ads are shown only to users on the Free and Go plans. Users on Plus, Pro, and Enterprise subscriptions continue to have an ad-free experience.
Advertising Principles and Privacy
OpenAI operates ChatGPT Ads based on a set of established ads principles designed to protect user trust. Key protections include:
- Data Privacy: Conversations remain private from advertisers and OpenAI does not sell customer data.
- Clear Labeling: Ads are clearly labeled and separated from the AI's responses.
- Response Integrity: Advertising does not influence the answers provided by ChatGPT.
- User Control: Users have control over ad personalization and can opt for ad-free paid plans.
Market Performance and Future Roadmap
As of late August, ChatGPT Ads reached a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate within 200 days of launch. Tens of thousands of advertisers are currently utilizing the platform to reach global audiences.
OpenAI plans to continue expanding into new markets and developing new ad formats, optimization tools, and measurement solutions over the coming months.
