Google DeepMind Fairwind Program

Google DeepMind has launched the Fairwind Program, a limited-access initiative providing governments and trusted partners with advanced AI capabilities to autonomously identify and remediate software vulnerabilities. This program aims to reduce the window of opportunity for attackers by shrinking the time between flaw detection and patching.

Autonomous Vulnerability Remediation with Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber

The Fairwind Program integrates the Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber model with the CodeMender harness to enable the autonomous discovery, verification, and fixing of vulnerabilities. This combination allows defenders to generate verified, deployment-ready patches in minutes rather than weeks, operating within an organization's secure cloud environment.

Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber provides the specialized reasoning required to write and validate code fixes while maintaining a lower operating cost compared to traditional frontier models. This approach addresses the previous dilemma for defenders who had to choose between expensive, difficult-to-control frontier models and smaller open-weight models that lacked the reasoning capabilities for complex remediation.

Strategic Deployment and Access Control

Google is staging initial access to the Fairwind Program for partners most critical to societal resilience, including:

  • Governments and national cyber authorities: Focused on hardening public-sector networks and citizen services against targeted intrusions.
  • Critical infrastructure operators: Protecting essential services in healthcare, telecommunications, energy, and financial networks.
  • Core technology platforms: Securing foundational software to improve digital security for millions of downstream users.

To ensure responsible use, participating organizations must adhere to strict operational standards, including limiting access to internal cybersecurity, incident response, or penetration testing teams and implementing multi-factor authentication. Currently, the program has more than 650 participating partners globally.

Ecosystem-Scale Cyber Defense and Funding

Beyond the Fairwind Program, Google is expanding its commitment to global cyber resilience. Any Google Cloud customer can use CodeMender with publicly available models via the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform and AI Threat Defense.

Additionally, through Google.org, Google has increased its total global cybersecurity funding to over $100 million. According to the 2026 Google.org US Cybersecurity Impact Report, $36 million has been allocated to 35 cyber clinics, providing free security support to over 1,250 hospitals, public school districts, and municipal utilities in the United States.
