Gunshot allows iOS users to upload photos and videos to Google Photos while spoofing device profiles (such as Pixel 1) to potentially achieve unlimited storage or specific quality settings. It provides a way to bypass standard upload restrictions on iOS by integrating directly with the Google Photos app via jailbreak, sideloading, or LiveContainer.

How it works

The project uses a Go-based core to handle the upload logic and integrates into the Google Photos app. Depending on the installation method, it operates differently:

  • Jailbreak: Runs as a separate daemon that handles uploads in the background, utilizing a restricted libSandy profile.
  • Jailed/Sideloaded: Injects a dylib into the Google Photos IPA, allowing it to run within the app's process. In this mode, uploads must stay in the foreground.

It automatically connects to the account signed into the native Google Photos app and can route manual or automatic backups through its own upload engine.
