Claude Code on Android: AI-powered mobile coding IDE for Android — chat with a coding agent, run Linux commands, edit files, review diffs, and preview web apps directly from your phone. No root required.
What it solves
Mobile Harness provides a complete, autonomous AI-powered development environment for Android devices. It eliminates the need for root access, unlocked bootloaders, or external apps like Termux to run a desktop-class Linux development workspace and AI coding agents directly on a phone.
How it works
The app combines a native Android UI (built with Jetpack Compose) with a private Ubuntu 20.04 LTS subsystem running in a rootless PRoot userspace. It uses a C++ JNI bridge to connect the Android host to the Linux environment. This allows users to run Node.js, Git, and other toolchains, and integrate AI agents like Claude Code, DeepSeek Harness, and Antigravity CLI, which can draft code, execute Linux commands, and build projects.
Who it’s for
Developers who want a professional software development workspace on their ARM64 Android devices, specifically those looking to use autonomous AI coding agents to build and test applications on the go.
Highlights
- Autonomous AI Agents: Native integration with Claude Code, DeepSeek Harness, and Antigravity CLI.
- Isolated Linux Subsystem: A full Ubuntu 20.04 ARM64 userspace with pre-installed Node.js, npm, and Git.
- On-device Android Builds: Ability to build, install, and launch Android APKs directly on the device without ADB pairing.
- Instant Web Preview: A sandboxed mobile WebView for real-time testing of web servers (e.g., Vite, Next.js).
- Hardware-backed Security: API keys are encrypted using Android Keystore-backed AES-256 GCM.
- Optional Toolchains: On-demand installation of Python, Android/JVM, C/C++, and PHP development stacks.
