Autonomous SBC case generation using SBC Model Framework
What it solves
SBC Case Builder is a parametric design tool that automates the creation of protective cases for Single Board Computers (SBCs). It eliminates the need to manually design a case for every new or legacy device by using a data-driven framework to automatically generate precise openings for I/O ports, standoffs, and cooling vents based on the specific hardware dimensions.
How it works
The project integrates with the "SBC Model Framework" to pull device-specific metadata. It uses this data to parametrically generate 3D models of cases in various styles (such as shell, tray, or rack-mount). The system automatically calculates where to cut holes for ports and places mounting standoffs. Users can customize the design via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) to adjust wall thickness, PCB positioning, fan sizes, and accessory placements. The final designs can be exported as 3D models or 2D files (DXF/SVG) for 3D printing or CNC cutting.
Who it’s for
This tool is designed for hardware prototypers, makers, and engineers who need to quickly create custom, professional-grade enclosures for SBCs, MCUs, or motherboards without manually modeling every port and screw hole in CAD software.
Highlights
- Multiple Case Styles: Supports a wide array of designs including shells, panels, stacked, trays, round, hex, and even folded-paper cases.
- Autonomous I/O Generation: Automatically creates openings for ports and accessories based on the device model.
- Parametric Customization: Full control over wall thickness, gap spacing, and case dimensions via a GUI.
- Advanced Standoff System: Variable height standoffs with support for inserts, countersinking, and collision detection.
- Cooling Integration: Dynamic generation of fan and vent openings tailored to the device's heatsink.
- Industrial Standards: Includes support for standard motherboard adapters (ATX, Mini-ITX, etc.) and rack-mount configurations (1U/2U, 10"/19").
