FreePeak/db-mcp-server

A powerful multi-database server implementing the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to provide AI assistants with structured access to databases.

What it solves

DB MCP Server allows AI assistants to interact with multiple databases simultaneously through a standardized interface. It solves the problem of providing AI models with structured, secure access to diverse database systems without needing to build custom connectors for every single data source.

How it works

Built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), the server connects to various database engines and automatically generates a set of specialized tools for each connection. For example, if a database is named mysql1, the server creates tools like query_mysql1 and schema_mysql1. It uses a Clean Architecture approach to separate domain logic, data access, and the external MCP interface. The server supports multiple transport modes, including STDIO for local use and experimental HTTP/SSE options for remote deployments.

Who it’s for

Developers and AI engineers who want to integrate their AI agents or assistants (such as Cursor) with live database environments for querying, schema exploration, and performance analysis.

Highlights

  • Multi-Database Support: Concurrent connections to MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, and Oracle databases.
  • Production Guardrails: Includes read-only enforcement, result truncation (max_rows), query timeouts, and column-level masking rules to protect data and system stability.
  • Dynamic Tooling: Automatically generates database-specific tools for executing queries, managing transactions, and analyzing schemas.
  • Flexible Configuration: Supports secret management via environment variables or files to avoid hardcoding credentials.
  • Audit Logging: Provides an append-only JSONL audit log of all executed statements.
