What it solves

BFiVRC allows users to control their VRChat avatars using brain-computer interface (BCI) hardware. It translates raw EEG data from biosensors into OSC (Open Sound Control) parameters that VRChat can use to trigger animations or effects on an avatar, enabling "brain-controlled" avatar features like moving ears or changing material colors.

How it works

The project uses the BrainFlow library to provide a device-agnostic API, allowing it to work with various supported biosensors (such as Muse headbands). It processes EEG measurements to calculate relaxation and focus metrics, as well as power values for common frequency bands (Alpha, Beta, Theta, Delta, Gamma) for the left, right, and average sides of the head. It also supports heart rate and respiration data if the hardware allows. These processed metrics are sent as OSC parameters to VRChat.
