Run Claude Desktop’s Cowork mode natively on Linux — no macOS or VM required
What it solves
This project enables the "Claude Cowork" feature—a specialized build of Claude Desktop that can read, write, and organize files in a local directory—to run on Linux. Since Cowork is officially a macOS-only preview that relies on a sandboxed Linux VM, this project removes the need for a VM or macOS by reverse-engineering and stubbing the native macOS components.
How it works
The project uses several techniques to trick the Claude Desktop application into running natively on Linux:
- Platform Spoofing: It sends macOS headers to Anthropic's servers so the Cowork features are enabled.
- Native Stubbing: It replaces macOS-only native modules (like
@ant/claude-swiftand@ant/claude-native) with JavaScript stubs that implement the same API surface. - Direct Execution: Instead of running a Linux VM inside macOS, it runs the Claude Code binary directly on the Linux host, translating VM-style paths to actual host paths.
- Platform Gate Bypass: A Python script patches the application's code to unconditionally report that Cowork is supported on the current platform.
- Orchestration Layer: A custom set of 15 modules manages session lifecycles, IPC communication, and file watching.

Linux users (specifically x86_64) with a Claude Pro or higher subscription who want to use the Cowork agentic capabilities on their local machine without using a virtual machine.
