What it solves

Scarf provides a native graphical user interface (GUI) for the Hermes AI agent, which is otherwise a terminal-and-messaging based tool. It transforms the "invisible" agent into a visible, manageable system by providing dashboards, chat interfaces, and configuration tools, allowing users to to manage their agent's state, memory, and costs without relying on YAML files or the command line.

How it works

Scarf is built with Swift 6 and SwiftUI. It connects to Hermes servers—either locally on a Mac or remotely via SSH—and reads the agent's SQLite database and CLI output. To ensure data integrity, it opens the state database read-only and performs all management actions through the hermes CLI. It uses the Agent Client Protocol (ACP) for rich streaming chat and can also run a real terminal session.
