ChatGPT Health Release Notes

OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Health, a dedicated experience designed to securely integrate a user's personal health information with AI intelligence. This tool is intended to help users feel more informed and prepared when navigating the healthcare system, specifically supporting rather than replacing professional clinical care.

Core Capabilities and Use Cases

ChatGPT Health allows users to ground AI conversations in their own medical context by securely connecting external data sources. This enables the AI to provide personalized responses based on actual health patterns rather than generic information.

Data Integration and Grounding

Users can connect a variety of medical records and wellness applications to the Health space. Key integrations include:

  • Medical Records: Access to lab results, clinical history, and visit summaries via a partnership with b.well for U.S. healthcare providers.
  • Apple Health: Syncing of movement, sleep, and activity patterns (requires iOS).
  • Function: Insights into lab tests and nutrition.
  • MyFitnessPal: Guidance on macros, recipes, and nutrition.
  • Weight Watchers: Personalized meal ideas and food guidance for GLP-1 users.
  • Other Wellness Tools: Integration with AllTrails, Instacart, and Peloton for activity and meal planning.

Practical Applications

With these integrations, users can perform tasks such as:

  • Summarizing recent bloodwork or interpreting lab results in accessible language.
  • Preparing specific questions for upcoming doctor appointments.
  • Analyzing health trends, such as cholesterol levels over time.
  • Receiving diet and workout advice based on connected wellness data.
  • Understanding insurance options based on personal healthcare patterns.

Privacy and Security Architecture

To protect sensitive medical data, ChatGPT Health operates as a compartmentalized environment with enhanced security layers beyond the standard ChatGPT architecture.

Isolation and Data Flow

Health exists as a separate space within the product. It maintains its own separate memories, ensuring health context does not leak into general chats. While ChatGPT may use non-Health context (e.g., a lifestyle change mentioned in a general chat) to inform a health conversation, information and memories created within the Health space never flow back into non-Health chats.

Encryption and Training

All conversations and files are encrypted at rest and in transit. ChatGPT Health implements purpose-built encryption and isolation to further protect sensitive data. Crucially, conversations occurring within the Health space are not used to train OpenAI's foundation models.

Third-Party Access Controls

Apps can only be connected with explicit user permission. All integrated apps must meet OpenAI's privacy and security requirements, including minimum data collection standards, and undergo a specific security review for the Health experience. Users can disconnect any app at any time to immediately revoke access.

Clinical Validation and Development

ChatGPT Health was developed over two years in collaboration with a network of over 260 physicians across 60 countries and dozens of specialties.

Physician-Led Feedback

Physicians provided feedback on model outputs more than 600,000 times across 30 focus areas. This process informed how the model handles urgency, communicates clearly without oversimplifying, and prioritizes safety in critical moments.

HealthBench Evaluation

The model is evaluated against clinical standards using HealthBench, an assessment framework created by OpenAI and practicing physicians. Unlike generic accuracy checks, HealthBench uses physician-written rubrics to judge quality based on safety, clarity, appropriate escalation of care, and respect for individual context.

Availability and Access

As of July 23, 2026, ChatGPT Health is available to U.S. users aged 18 and older on web and iOS. Initial access was rolled out to a small group of early users across Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans outside of the EEA, Switzerland, and the UK. Medical record integrations and certain apps remain available in the U.S. only.
